Cruelty Free International has been campaigning to stop the expansion of the Bantin & Kingman Ltd (B&K) facility since 2011. The facility, in the picturesque hamlet of Grimston, in East Yorkshire, supplies hundreds of beagles and ferrets for cruel animal experiments each year.

Our campaign has so far helped to prevent the extension, but B&K Ltd appealed last year and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark, will now be making a final decision.

Last year we handed a 99,000 strong petition to his department, calling on them to uphold the decision to stop the expansion of the beagle farm. Our campaign also received support from celebrities including Ricky Gervais, Jilly Cooper, Chris Packham and Carly Stenson.

If the appeal is granted, B&K Ltd will be able to breed and house 2000 dogs at a time, who would be destined for a lifetime of suffering in cruel animal experiments.

In January, three senior executives of the beagle-breeding company Green Hill were convicted of animal cruelty in Italy. B&K shares the same parent company as Green Hill, and one of the executives to receive a prison sentence, Ghislaine Rondot, is also Director of B&K.
