Kay Gallwey
Artist biography
Kay Gallwey lives and works in Hampstead, London. She trained in the City & Guilds School of Art, Goldsmiths School of Art, the Royal Academy of Art and Central St. Martins School of Art.
Kay undertakes a wide range of fine art including still life, animals, portraits and nudes. She is inspired by animals, colour, light and countries such as Japan, India, Sri-Lanka and Bologna among others. Kay works in a variety of media including paintings in pastels, oil on canvas, ceramic sculpture, posters and drawings.
Her work has been exhibited extensively in galleries across the UK including London Contemporary Arts, Fosse Gallery, Alexander Llweyalyn, McGrath Gallery, Bow House Gallery, Catto Gallery, Pastel Society, Morley College, Heron Gallery, and at Burlington Arcade (London).
The artist has produced posters for the London Underground (‘Pink Flamingos at Golders Hill Park’ and ‘Colombia Road Flower Market’) and New York Graphics. Her paintings and drawings have also appeared in feature movies such as ‘Full Metal Jacket’, 'Return of the Soldier', 'High Spirits' and ‘Rosetti and the Pre-Raphailites’.
Kay has also written and illustrated two books for children (‘Mr Bill and Clarence’ and ‘Dancing Daisy’) and an adult art book ‘Introduction to Drawing Animals’. She is also a Shiham (Master) in Japanese calligraphy, a fashion illustrator and costume designer for theatre, television and films.
