California Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act passes the Assembly
Bill heads to California Governor
California has taken a huge step towards becoming a cruelty free cosmetics zone as the California Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act passes the Assembly. Now bill SB 1249 heads to the desk of California Governor Jerry Brown in the hope that he will sign it into law.
In the last few weeks several amendments were made to the bill to address specific concerns from the cosmetics industry and help ensure the act was passed.
Our North America Campaign Manager Monica Engebretson said: “While we would have liked to see some of the stronger language kept in, even with the recent amendments the bill closely matches the terms of the European Union ban and represents progress, not just for California, but for the United States.”
As the fifth largest economy in the world, and with a population greater than Canada’s, California’s progress towards ending the sale of animal tested cosmetics is a huge boost for animals.
If you live in California you can help by asking Governor Brown to sign SB 1249 into law.
