Meet our first ever Piggies of the Month!
Dynamic guinea pig duo tirelessly advocate for global end to cosmetics animal testing
Roscoe and Gambit are our Piggies of the Month for August 2019. Usually we nominate a Parliamentarian [or Legislator] of the Month to celebrate the work decision-makers do for animals, but this month we celebrate the advocacy of this dynamic guinea pig duo who have joined our campaigns to end cosmetics testing on animals.
Gambit got his start in March of 2017 by posing with the Guatemalan flag to celebrate Guatemala’s prohibition on animal testing for cosmetics. Not to be outdone, a few months later, Roscoe helped us celebrate Australia’s commitment to ending cosmetics testing on animals.
Roscoe and Gambit teamed up to support the California Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act by visiting then California Governor Jerry Brown’s office to encourage him to sign the bill into law. It worked! The bill was signed a few days later. Their effort was acknowledged by former California First Dog Colusa Brown, who tweeted: “Happy to hear dad signed #SB1249 to help end cosmetic testing on animals. Invited some friends over to celebrate!”
Not ones to rest on their laurels, Roscoe and Gambit set their sights on helping us win recently-adopted cruelty free cosmetics legislation in Nevada and Illinois.
Roscoe and Gambit live in the care of our North American Campaign Manager, Monica Engebretson, who said: “Roscoe and Gambit are fortunate that they’ve never had to experience the horrors of a laboratory like so many other guinea pigs around the world. Instead they spend their days burrowing in hay, shouting for carrots, and occasionally posing for photos to help call for an end to animal testing for cosmetics everywhere and forever.”
Despite progress in more and more states, the US still hasn’t passed federal legislation to end cosmetics animal testing. Let your US legislators know that the time for action is now. Show your support on social media with the hashtag #SupportHumaneCosmetics
