BREAKING NEWS: LPT laboratory has operating licence removed
Final tests at the facility halted by authorities
Today we welcome the news that the LPT Mienenbüttel site at the centre of our investigation with SOKO Tierschutz will cease activities as local authorities call into question the reliability of the company. This means that LPT’s other sites in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein are also at risk of having their licences removed.
Thanks to all our supporters for everything you've done to help. Although great progress, there is still more to be done. The authorities estimate that 17 monkeys, 36 cats and 185 dogs remain at the site, and we are calling for them to be promptly and compassionately rehomed and not returned to suppliers.
We are also urging the European Union to follow up its complaint against Germany for failing to properly follow EU law and are pushing for an urgent review of toxicity testing in the EU as a whole.
Our Director of Public Affairs, Kerry Postlewhite said: “Our investigation highlights the urgent need for a review of toxicity testing throughout Europe so that cruelty of this nature cannot be allowed to take place in any laboratory. The case of LPT is undoubtedly particularly horrific, but tragically this type of testing, with all the suffering which goes with it, is taking place all over Europe.
“To date, nearly 100,000 people have joined us in contacting the European Commission urging them to act. The public want this cruelty to end. Europe's citizens deserve reassurance that animal suffering like this is not happening on their doorsteps. The time for action is now.”
