They came and took me from my cage. I was held tightly and something long and thin was put in my mouth. I didn’t like this and I got upset as it was pushed right to the back of my mouth and then further down my throat. It wasn’t food. I could feel it sliding down inside me and I gagged. I felt it deep inside my body. It didn’t feel right to me. Every day in the months that followed I was taken out of my cage and they forced the tube down my throat and inserted something into it. What they were putting in my tummy began to make me feel ill. Afterwards when my food came I didn’t always want to eat it. Sometimes when I did I would throw it all up again. After many months I was taken out of my cage for the last time. They held me tightly and shaved my paw. I felt a sharp stab in my paw and a cool feeling as liquid crept into my veins. Suddenly I felt very tired, I remembered the smell of my mother and wished I was with her again.

What’s wrong with animal experiments?
Using animals in experiments is cruel, unreliable and even dangerous. Animal research is morally wrong. It involves the deliberate infliction of suffering on another being, which is not for their benefit and to which they cannot consent.
There are also questions over the scientific value of animal experiments. For example, 95% of drugs fail in human trials despite promising results in animal tests. Where humane alternatives to animal tests have been developed, they are often cheaper, quicker and more reliable.
